To understand our work ethic, you need to understand where lumos was birthed.
Mark had been working in the Development department of Banbridge District Council, with the remit of promoting the work of the council. This of course involved working alongside a whole host of people...copy writers, printers, press officers, publishers, and designers.
It was the last which Mark found the most challenging. Coming from a background in graphic design and business, he soon became frustrated with the level of service some were offering in the industry (and getting away with it!)
Meanwhile,
a close friend, David had just left SDC Trailers as an IT & Technical Support Adviser to complete a degree in Computer Science at Queens. David had explored the employee route and discovered rather quickly, he would much rather be the employ...er.
Mark and David both felt a door was opening for them and so wanted to explore where it would lead. After much discussion and brainstorming, they set up Lumos Design House - a graphic and web design company (January 2006).
In January 2007,
after trading for only 12 months Mark and David where successful in gaining the first place on an Northern Ireland first "Incubation Initiative" hosted by Mallusk Enterprise Park and Newtownabbey Borough Council. This initiative allowed them to continue their growth by moving to their new premises in Mallusk Enterprise Park.
At the same time,
Mark and David where successful in acquiring a place on the first ever "Speed Programme" for Northern Ireland run by the University of Ulster's Economic Development Department. This programme provided mentoring and training support for Lumos Design House in it's embryonic state.
Lumos Design House
was born out of a situation which presented a gap in the market, a frustration that a professional service was not being provided and a motivating factor that "we could do it better".
We have achieved much but have learnt so much more.
We are excited about the future because we are still learning.
The New Economy
The new economy has presented us all with new challenges and opportunities to evolve and do things better. In an effort to step with these new challenges and opportunities, Mark and David made the move from their 'home' for almost two and a half years at Mallusk Enterprise Park to their new office at home.
Mark and David would both wish to thank Melaine and the team at Mallusk Enterprise Park for making their time at the Park so beneficial, enjoyable and their move so hassle free.
One of the challenges which faced Lumos was the slow down in the market for website services, particularly over the past 3-6 months. Both business partners recognised this and so in August 2009, David decided to leave the partnership to explore other avenues in his career journey and allow Mark to continue with the Graphic Design and Print Services side of the business.
Mark would like to thank David for his friendship and the many good memories as they have adventured together in business and wishes David every blessing as he seeks to explore what God has for him.
Mark is continuing to build a professional and honest company based on the following key principles:
- listen and understand the clients situation
- identify the clients need and message
- design quality and deliver on time
- build and develop relationship
- continually improve and evolve
Lumos Design House - Your Message. Made Clear.
